Special Christmas Music in Provincetown

The Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra will perform a special Christmas version of Handel's Messiah in the Provincetown Town Hall Auditorium on Sunday, December 16th at 3pm.  Imagine sitting in the beautifully restored Town Hall Auditorium and listening to this incredible performance.  What an amazing event this will be.

One of the most inspiring stories ever told. One of the greatest musical experiences of all time. Hear it as Handel first envisioned – in period-style with orchestra and chorus. Hear it performed by New England’s finest soloists and a critically-acclaimed choir. Hear it in an intimate setting, surrounded by its beauty, drama and joy. We want you to hear Messiah like you’ve never heard it before. And make it unforgettable.

You may purchase tickets in advance through the Crown and Anchor web site.

If you need accomodations that weekend please visit The Somerset House Inn reservations and availability page for available rooms.  Or give us a call on our toll-free number at 1-800-575-1850.  We are easy walking distance to Town Hall.

Off-Season Provincetown

A number of people ask what Provincetown is like in the off-season.  In response we created a web site to answer that very question.  The Celebrate Provincetown web site was created by Dan a couple of years ago so visitors would know what restaurants are open and what activities are going on.  There's no question Provincetown is much quieter in the off-season than in July and August, but a number of great restaurants are open year-round.  Visit the celebrateprovincetown.com web site to find out which ones and what days they are open by visiting the restaurant listing for each month.

If you click on the Events/Entertainment page you can find a list of activities for the month.  You can find out about theater happenings at the Provincetown Theater or that the Boston Gay Men's Chorus will be appearing at the town hall auditorium on Saturday, December 1st.  Or that the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra will be performing a special Christmas version of Handel's Messiah on Sunday, December 16th in the town hall auditorium.

And it's never too early to think about spending New Year's Eve Weekend in Provincetown.  The calendar is aligned perfectly this year as New Year's Eve is on Monday.  Spend a perfect three day weekend (or more) in Provincetown to celebrate the start of 2013.  Check out the celebrateprovincetown.com web site for details, but we'd suggest seeing Miss Richfield on Saturday night and Suede in concert on Sunday night and then you have lots of options for New Year's Eve.

MEWS Coffeehouse in Provincetown

The 22nd season of the Monday MEWS Restaurant Coffeehouse starts tonight, November 5th.  The 'open mic' Coffeehouse runs almost every Monday through mid May.  Check their schedule for the dates and a list of featured performers.  Peter Donnelly, one of the originators of the Coffeehouse and still the host, provides the schedule on his web site.

The weekly 'open mic' has been providing an open stage for budding and established musicians, writers and poets and other performers to practice their craft in front of a live audience.  The open mic starts at 8pm and performers get five to eight minutes.  Each week there is a featured performer who usually takes the stage around 9pm.  The first featured performer of the 2012-2013 year is Marcia Mello Delta Blues.  The Coffeehouse is just one of the many amazing surprises during the off-season in Provincetown.

The MEWS Restaurant is located at 429 Commercial Street, please call (508) 487-1500 for reservations.  You may think a Monday night in the off-season in Provincetown, I'll just walk in and get a table.  The Coffeehouse is VERY popular so to be on the safe side you should call ahead.  Whenever we have guests in town if they are here for a Monday night we send them to the MEWS for Coffeehouse.  They get great entertainment and a great meal, it's a perfect evening.  A decadent tip - save room for the White Chocolate Creme Brulee, mmmmmmmm good!  Everything on their menu is wonderful, we can honestly say we've never had a bad meal at the MEWS.

And don't forget when you need Provincetown lodging The Somerset House Inn is here for you.  We're open year-round and would be happy to have you stay with us.  We think we have one of the best locations in Provincetown, right on Commercial Street where you are steps away from everything.  The MEWS Restaurant and Monday night Coffeehouse are a couple of blocks from our inn.
