April at The Somerset House Inn in Provincetown

Officially spring arrives in March, but in Provincetown April starts off the season.  Many restaurants, shops and galleries that may have been closed for the winter re-open in April.  Local favorite the Lobster Pot opens for its 35th year on April 11th.  April is also the time when we find out about some new restaurants in town.

El Mundo across the street from Town Hall went away to be replaced by Tin Pan Alley.  Ten Tables is being replaced by Backstreet.  Lorraine’s closed on the west end and relocated to our neck of the woods.  Hot L on Bradford decided not to re-open.  Dalla Cucina is being reinvented as Ristorante Marissa.  Cerraldi, which was very hot last year is relocating to a permanent space, but so far it’s a secret.  We’ll let you know when we find out.

Of course you have probably heard that Liza Minelli is coming to Provincetown this summer to do two sold out benefit performances.  Other notable performers include:

·         Joan Rivers on July 5th
·         Helen Reddy on July 21st and 22nd
·         Leslie Jordan on June 30th and July 1st
·         David Sedaris on Friday, August 1st in Town Hall

Many more to come, we’ll highlight them as we hear of them.  And we’ll give you an update on shops and galleries in the future.  What’s going on in April and beyond?

April 1 - The Pilgrim Monument and Museum opens for the season on April.
April 12 - Whale watching begins.  Check here for more information.

April 25-27 – Gays for Patsy Annual Spring Stomp
May 3 – Women’s Music Festival at Town Hall
May 16 – Fast ferry service from Boston begins

March at The Somerset House Inn in Provincetown

March has arrived in Provincetown.  What a wild winter it has been, although we suspect we have had it easier than many of you across the nation.  Thankfully the ocean has a tendency to moderate our weather.  We also have a great Public Works Department in town that does a very good job plowing our streets during any snowstorm.  And now we see signs of spring as the crocuses are starting to sprout.

Eat your way through Provincetown!  A number of our restaurants have weekday specials.  We’d start with the MEWS on Monday nights for their coffee house live entertainment.  Maybe Tuesday head over to Napi’s for Taco Tuesday, check out The Pointe and get two entrees for the price of one on Wednesday, on Thursday back to the MEWS (the food is that good !) between 6 and 8pm for a two entrees for the price of one.  Friday fish fry specials can be found at Bayside Betsy’s, the Central House and Fanizzi’s.  On Sunday we’d start out with the Sunday brunch at Fanizzi’s and end with dinner at Ciro & Sal’s for their two for one special on any spaghetti dinners.  Check out the listings at CelebrateProvincetown.com.

The beauty and serenity of Provincetown in March is spectacular.  During the week you may want to use the Provincetown Historic Walking Tour guide to wander through town.  Provincetown has a rich history, the guide will help you discover a part of it.   For lovers of art the Provincetown Art Association and Museum is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 5pm.  Make sure to be at Herring Cove Beach for a Provincetown sunset.  Photo at right by Petar Dopchev.

The critically acclaimed play ‘Bent’ will be performed at the Provincetown Theater March 14 – 30.  Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoons at 3p.m.  Also at the Provincetown Theater is their Winter Reading Series, every Tuesday evening through March 11th.

The majority of stores are open on weekends.  If you are here on the weekend take a day to wander Commercial Street and visit all the wonderful and unique shops that are Provincetown.

And of course we would love to have you stay with us at The Somerset House Inn.  Click here to make your reservations.  Come to Provincetown in March !
